WWII aera construction vehicle on the North Canol Road, Yukon

In 1942 the Canadian Oil (Canol) pipeline was built by the US War Department between Norman Wells in the Northwest Territories and Whitehorse in the Yukon. It was supposed to ensure the Alaskan oil supply during the Second World War. The project was completed in two years at an astronomical cost and was abandoned less than a year later. To simplify construction and maintenance, the pipeline was laid on the surface of the ground and in some parts of the North Canol Road you can still find remnants of the 4 inch pipeline ... and of course the dozens of abandoned construction vehicles.
